Nigeria’s students’ apex body, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), on Saturday, lauded the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for his high level of professionalism in the ongoing road projects delivery across the country.
NANS, led by its President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, described the Minister as “Infrastructure Bulldozer,” after his delegation inspected three federal roads in Ondo State at the weekend.
The team, inspected the Owo-Benin, Akure-Owo and Ilesa roads, as part of NANS’s ongoing Nationwide Federal Roads Project Tour.
Comr. Akinteye said the roads matter directly to students, noting that “Thousands of students commute along these routes daily.”“The routes serve students travelling to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and the University of Benin (UNIBEN).”
Afeez described the Ilesa Road as equally important to commuters and students moving within the South-West, saying its condition is a concern in the group’s wider assessment of federal road infrastructure in the region.
“As student leaders, our responsibility is not merely to demand good roads,” the NANS President said, adding that the group also aims to acknowledge commendable work and flag areas needing improvement.
The association praised Umahi for his commitment to road development nationwide and credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with prioritising infrastructure and initiatives addressing student welfare.
The association pledged to pursue “constructive intellectual engagement and accountability.”
