Seoul National University’s board of trustees has reportedly postponed the interviews for the three presidential candidates, originally scheduled for September 27, to November 8. This decision follows the determination that additional verification of some candidates is necessary.
According to Seoul National University officials on October 21, the board held a meeting on October 20 and decided to delay the interviews for the three candidates to November 8. The board also resolved to form a separate special committee to conduct further verification of the candidates.
Recently, the university’s audit office received reports regarding the presidential candidates, and it was judged that additional verification was required. In this context, a Seoul National University official stated, “The additional verification aims to confirm the reports and select the presidential candidate without any issues.”
Earlier, the Seoul National University Presidential Recommendation Committee held its fourth meeting last month and selected four preliminary candidates (Professors Kang Joon-ho, Kim Hyun-cheol, Lee Jae-young, and Choi Hae-cheon) after a presentation session involving 12 people. Subsequently, a policy evaluation team—composed of university staff, employees of affiliated schools, and current students—narrowed down the final candidates to three (Kang Joon-ho, Lee Jae-young, and Choi Hae-cheon) based on the preliminary candidates’ policy presentations.
Originally, the board planned to conduct in-depth interviews, including presentations and Q&A sessions lasting about two hours per 1 people, on September 27 and then select the final candidate. However, as the board decided to proceed with additional verification, the selection schedule is expected to be delayed by about a week.
