Sri Lanka, Feb. 2 — Today (02), the Urban Development Authority (UDA) began offering online payment options for its customers as part of the government’s nationwide digital transformation initiative. The event took place at the Peliyagoda Manning General Market Complex, with Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake serving as the chief guest.

Following the launch of the service, over 1,400 licensed vendors at the Manning Market are now able to process payments electronically via the government’s GovPay system, ensuring safe and clear transactions.

The payment feature is available via the UDA web application, enabling users to make transactions online without having to visit in person.

As stated by the Ministry of Transport and Highways, the project is designed to foster a contemporary digital economy, reduce time consumption for companies, and enhance effectiveness in financial dealings.

At the launch, Minister Rathnayake highlighted that efficient time management is essential for business success and mentioned that incorporating technology into payment systems helps prevent delays while maintaining security and ease of use. He further stated that digitalization continues to be a major national initiative, with technology-based services anticipated to boost business efficiency and public service quality.

The minister also mentioned that in the upcoming stage, the system will be extended to assist over 13,500 residents from UDA housing projects, allowing them to settle utility charges and property taxes electronically.

Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara, UDA Chairman Eng. M.G. Hemachandra, Director General (IT Systems) Manoj Perera, and business community representatives were also present at the gathering.
