TOKYO – According to the company, SoftBank Robotics Corp.’s “Pepper” robot has been acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the first mass-produced humanoid service robot globally, as announced on Monday.
Standing at 121 centimeters, Pepper was created to engage in spoken conversations with people and has been deployed in different environments such as shopping centers, educational institutions, and care facilities since its launch on June 5, 2014.
The company also announced the release of “Pepper+,” featuring the most recent artificial intelligence advancements, with the goal of not only interacting with individuals but also offering services like showcasing and suggesting products that cater to customer requirements.
“We are committed to pushing the boundaries of what robots can achieve,” stated SoftBank Robotics.
Pepper+ identifies people using a built-in camera and engages them in conversation considering their clothing and characteristics. It also employs simulated sales strategies used by experienced demonstrators to inquire about customers’ preferences and interests.
Under a yearly agreement, Pepper+ can be rented for 79,800 yen ($515) each month, whereas monthly short-term rentals amount to 150,000 yen. A setup fee is needed independently.
