Canadian pop singer Céline Dion, famous for songs such as the ‘Titanic’ anthem ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and numerous other tracks, is set to make a comeback on stage four years after disclosing her struggle with a rare illness.
Dion shared a sneak peek of her performance on her Instagram on the 30th. In the video, she mentioned, “I will get to see you again in Paris in early September this year and deliver a show. I love you all, and I’ll be seeing you soon.”
The statement was made on the same day as her birthday. Dion said, “I got the greatest birthday present of my life this year. The show where I get to connect with fans is that present.”
As reported by the U.S. entertainment publication Variety, the concert will be held at Paris La Défense Arena, featuring 10 performances from September 12 to October 14. Dion is set to showcase both English and French songs that have been cherished by multiple generations.
In 2022, Dion shared on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological condition that leads to muscle spasms in response to sounds, touch, or emotions. International media reported, “The condition impacts the spine and brain, resulting in overactive muscle responses and spasms, and there is currently no cure.”
In her video, Dion referred to it as “a condition that affects one in a million people,” noting, “Unfortunately, the spasms affect every part of daily living.” She added, “At times, walking is hard, and using my voice to sing becomes difficult.” She postponed all planned concerts, explaining, “I always give my full effort during shows, but my current situation doesn’t permit it.”
Dion made an unexpected appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, delivering a remarkable performance that received worldwide praise. She performed ‘Hymne à l’Amour’ from the top of the Eiffel Tower to conclude the event. Nevertheless, this was her only official performance since her diagnosis.
Although she is dealing with her health issues, Dion has shown a powerful wish to go back to performing. In the film *I Am: Céline Dion*, which came out in the same year, she stated, “My voice leads my life. The stage is greatly missed. I miss the audience. If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl onto the stage.”
