Following the U.S. declaration of a blockade across the Strait of Hormuz after the failure of peace talks, an Iranian representative cautioned, “You will long for gasoline costing 4 to 5 dollars per gallon.”

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 12th, local time, through the social media site Truth Social, “The world’s most powerful U.S. Navy will immediately start blockade measures for all ships entering and leaving the Strait of Hormuz. I have ordered the Navy to inspect and stop all vessels that have paid fees to Iran in international waters. Ships that have paid unlawful tolls will not be assured of safe passage in international waters.”

It is being examined that Trump, who had been under pressure because of the Strait of Hormuz blockade, has responded by severing Iran’s trade routes and crude oil exports.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for the Middle East area, stated on the same day, “At 10 a.m. Eastern Time on April 13 (11 p.m. Korean time on the 13th), we will enforce a blockade on all sea traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports.”

Mohammad Ghalibaf, a leader in the Iranian parliament involved in peace talks, shared an image of a gasoline price chart at a station near the White House in Washington, D.C., on his X (formerly Twitter) account following the announcement of U.S. actions. He wrote, “Enjoy the current gasoline prices. Once the so-called ‘blockade’ is put in place, you will soon long for gasoline costing 4 to 5 dollars per gallon.”

The United States and Iran held a lengthy peace discussion in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, on the 11th, according to local time, yet ultimately could not arrive at a consensus.

Local Iranian media stated that although there were significant disagreements, talks were anticipated to restart on the same day. However, the U.S. delegation left for home on a private flight following the collapse of the discussions.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance spoke with journalists at the location and stated, “We had a number of meaningful conversations with Iran but are heading back to the U.S. without achieving an agreement. I think this is much worse news for Iran than for the U.S.”
