April 11, 2026 (DILLING) – On Saturday, at least four individuals lost their lives and 13 more were injured when artillery shells struck a marketplace in Dilling, the second-largest city in South Kordofan.
Local reports shared with Sudan Tribune indicated that the bombardment, conducted by an alliance consisting of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Abdel Aziz al-Hilu group from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), targeted the central marketplace. The assault completely destroyed four stores and caused partial damage to seven more.
The coalition has recently increased its focus on Dilling through the use of heavy artillery and drones. These attacks have consistently damaged civilian facilities such as hospitals, schools, and factories, causing major losses of life.
Although the RSF and SPLM-N have carried out intermittent ground attacks aimed at capturing the city, the Sudanese army has successfully prevented these efforts. Dilling continues to be heavily populated as residents flee the ongoing fighting in the surrounding areas.
The conditions for humanitarian aid in Dilling have changed as the battle lines have moved. By late January, the military and its partners succeeded in ending a three-year blockade by establishing rough dirt paths linking Dilling with North Kordofan.
Nevertheless, the RSF and SPLM-N renewed the blockade in February. On April 6, the military announced that they had broken the siege again after intense combat, which resulted in the capture of Al-Tukma, a key town situated about 7 kilometers east of Dilling.
