April 19, 2026 (DONGOLA) – The head of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met with dissident Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Major General Al-Nour Ahmed Adam, also known as “Al-Qubba,” in Northern State on Sunday.
The leader of the breakaway faction arrived in Dongola from the Kutum area in North Darfur, representing one of the major withdrawals from the paramilitary organization since Abu Agla Keikel enlisted with the military in October 2024.
Backed by loyalist groups and 46 fighting vehicles, his group advanced across the desert towards northern Sudan.
The Sudanese military was essential in the operation, utilizing combat drones to offer air support and attack RSF ambushes positioned along the desert route. The convoy finally arrived at the desert town of Al-Khanaq and then continued to Dongola with the assistance of the SAF, the General Intelligence Service, and the Joint Force.
The Revolutionary Awakening Council (RAC), under the leadership of Musa Hilal, praised the defection as a “courageous national stand” that emphasizes the nation’s unity and independence.
Hilal, the head of the Mahameed tribe to which Qubba belongs, is said to have been instrumental in ensuring the general’s secure departure.
After Qubba left, RSF forces are said to have initiated a revenge operation targeting the Mahameed ethnic group in Kutum and nearby regions.
Accounts suggest extensive violations, such as house searches, theft, and large-scale detentions of people alleged to back the rebel leader.
