“He is a kind uncle who has never created any issues, which is why we are all so taken aback,” he stated.
Three individuals — two men and a Vietnamese woman — lost their lives during the attack when the shooter, armed with a Benelli M/Super shotgun, began firing at them.
The man subsequently drove to a different coffee shop approximately 200 meters (656 feet) away. He was taken into custody there.
It is reported that the woman is the proprietor of the store where the event took place.
“It was shocking to have a shooting in our own backyard, but what is even more surprising is that it involved this man,” Hamzah stated.
The 57-year-old mentioned that he had just finished closing his shop and was leaving when the incident occurred.
I had departed just a short time before.
Several other stores in the vicinity were typically closed on Sundays.
“I was informed by witnesses that, following the shooting, the uncle went to a nearby coffee shop where he had a drink with a friend,” he said.
We are aware that the uncle owns his own orchard, and I personally know friends who obtain their vegetables from him. Nevertheless, we were unaware that he possessed a shotgun and a permit to carry it.
A variety store owner, who wished to be referred to only as Hussein, stated he was also taken aback.
The store owned by Hussein is situated directly in front of the café where the suspect was taken into custody.
“I had only just returned from my prayers and meal when I spotted the uncle in handcuffs inside a police vehicle,” he mentioned.
At that moment, I had already learned about the incident, but I genuinely didn’t anticipate it being him. He appeared to be a harmless elderly man, who occasionally even struggled with walking.
In a statement released on Sunday, Commissioner Ab Rahaman Arsad, head of the Johor police force, mentioned that an elderly individual was taken into custody in relation to a shooting that resulted in three fatalities.
He mentioned that the suspect, whose shotgun was also taken during the arrest, held a permit to possess a weapon.
“The individual has agricultural property, which makes him eligible to own a weapon. The permit was issued specifically for safeguarding crops against vermin, and not for any other intention,” he stated.
The individual under suspicion has been ordered to remain in custody for seven days, beginning on Monday.
