The Green Partyhas faced allegations of sectarianism following the distribution of election campaign brochures featuring six different languages.

Flyers handed out before Thursday’s voting day include the same message translated into English, Urdu, Bangla, Turkish, Arabic, and Somali.

Deputy party leader Mothin Ali is shown beside the text, which reads: ‘We must put an end to Reform and reject’Labour. Please cast your vote for Green on May 7th.

Mr. Ali, who was chosen as a council member for the Gipton and Harehills area in Leeds in May 2024, has been vigorously promoting his campaign throughout the nation before the voting day.

Critics have claimed the party uses ‘divisive’ communication.

One individual commented on X: ‘Catering to the sectarian electorate.’

Another addition: “They will soon run out of space on their brochures.”

But a third individual stated: “It doesn’t affect me, it just ends up in the trash.”

Earlier this year, the party faced criticism for distributing pamphlets in Urdu urging local voters to ‘punish’Labour for Gazain the Gorton and Denton by-election.

A translation of the pamphlet read: ‘Give the weakening walls a nudge. Labour should face consequences for Gaza.’

We must overcome Reform and support the Greens. To provide the Muslims with a powerful voice, cast your vote for the Greens.

At that moment, the party stated, ‘not every voter speaks English as their primary language, so naturally, the Greens aim to be inclusive.’

A representative stated, “Our method has been commended by residents who appreciate their varied neighborhood.”

Supporters of the Greens have openly criticized the Labour Government’s approach to foreign policy concerning Gaza, and it is widely recognized that numerous voters aim to convey a message to Labour in this by-election for various reasons.

Mr. Ali rejected claims of sectarianism, stating, “the same slogans have been employed to convey a message that people can relate to.”

Last week, the Daily Mail reported that a Conservative Party candidate violated party regulations by campaigning in a foreign language.

Although leader Kemi Badenoch pledged to prohibit election candidates from reaching out to voters using non-English communication, it was discovered that one of her own candidates in a key target council had shared several social media posts in Arabic.

Natalia Awasty, located in the Church Street area of the Westminster council, shared two videos on Instagram that were only in a different language.

The Conservative Party stated that it had informed the candidate about the regulations and the posts were ‘eventually taken down’.

A machine learning model recently forecasted that the Labour party would lose authority over 50 councils following the critical vote on Thursday.

A data analytics company named Bombe predicted that Reform would secure the highest number of council seats.

Nigel Farage’s political group is expected to do exceptionally well in working-class communities located in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and the northern part of England.

They are also expected to achieve success in certain urban districts, such as parts of the Manchester region, Newcastle, and throughout the Midlands, as per the study.

Meanwhile, the Greens are expected to gain complete control—or emerge as the leading party—in several inner London boroughs.

These encompass Lambeth, Lewisham, Hackney, Southwark, and Greenwich, while, beyond the city, Zack Polanski’s group is also anticipated to do well in Manchester, Oxford, and Cambridge.

In total, based on the most recent Bombe model, Reform is expected to take over 14 councils, whereas the Greens will assume control of eight.

The Liberal Democrats are expected to lose two council seats, and the Conservatives are set to lose three, with a potential significant rise in the number of councils without a clear majority.
