May 4, 2026 (MINSK) – On Monday, Sudan and Belarus decided to add the revision and approval of several existing bilateral agreements to the agenda of the ongoing Joint Ministerial Committee meetings in Minsk.
Sudan and Belarus had previously established a set of cooperation agreements in 2017 and 2018. These pacts encompass key areas such as agriculture, oil, industry, science and technology, healthcare, higher education, and research.
The fifth meeting of the Sudan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Committee began in the Belarusian capital on Monday, with plans to take place between May 4 and May 8.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release that both sides will start official discussions on Tuesday, following the agreed-upon schedule. The main aim of these meetings will be to revise and officially approve agreements made in earlier sessions to ensure they align with present needs.
The committee’s initial day involved site visits to the Minsk Tractor Works and the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus. The Sudanese delegation examined Belarusian expertise in producing agricultural machinery and explored financial possibilities for different development initiatives in Sudan.
The Sudanese team is led by Energy Minister Moatasim Ibrahim, along with State Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim. The Belarusian group is represented by the First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Maksim Viktorovich.
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that the meetings occur in the framework of enhancing bilateral ties and increasing collaboration in economic, trade, and investment areas.
The gatherings are taking place during a period of growing momentum in bilateral collaboration. Both countries have shown willingness to explore new political and economic opportunities that create a strategic structure for their relationships in multiple areas.
