Addis Ababa, May 5, 2026 (ENA) — Ethiopia has firmly dismissed what it called “unfounded claims” that were presented at a recent combined press briefing involving the Sudanese Armed Forces, Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and a military representative.
In a statement released by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ethiopia emphasized that the citizens of Ethiopia and Sudan have a long history of friendship and strong brotherly connections.
The claim blamed the Sudanese Armed Forces for ignoring the significant participation of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) fighters in the current conflict, stating that Sudanese military figures have supplied weapons and monetary assistance to these groups.
As per the statement, the actions of TPLF fighters in Sudan are “a matter of public record,” and the government asserts that there is reliable evidence suggesting Sudan has turned into a base for anti-Ethiopian groups operating against the nation.
Ethiopia added that the claims raised by Sudanese military officials are being influenced by outside forces with what it referred to as a “devious plan.”
Although tensions are increasing, Ethiopia stated that it continues to be dedicated to aiding the people of Sudan and preserving the long-standing relationship between the two neighboring countries.
The Ethiopian administration also reiterated its demand for an immediate cessation of the fighting in Sudan, emphasizing that there is no military resolution to the continuing civil conflict.
It called on all involved sides to commit to an immediate humanitarian pause, followed by a permanent ceasefire, and a civilian-led political discussion that is independent, comprehensive, and open, with the goal of bringing back peace and civilian governance to Sudan.
