Raila Odinga Junior has urged political leaders to honor the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, cautioning against the rise of internal conflicts within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Odinga Junior mentioned that the party was dealing with internal conflicts only a few months following Raila’s death, calling on leaders to show wisdom and self-control.
Speaking at a public event at JacarandaGrounds, he He stated that he had personally conveyed expectations to family members and political allies concerning respect for the Odinga family in public and political settings.
People are discussing ODM and its different groups. I know that ODM was associated with Raila, and as a member of his family, I will speak.. WeHave our uncle Oburu. Six months following his passing, the party is experiencing conflicts. We need to act responsibly in our politics. It doesn’t matter if you have leadership elsewhere; you have vehicles and all necessities. Respect is not a sign of weakness,” he said.said.
I spoke to my uncle and informed him that starting today, if you are an MP, PS, MCA, or similar positions, Raila’s family should be respected. Perform your duties with respect. Show respect to Raila’s family..”
Odinga Junior also rejected rumors regarding his political stance within ODM groups, stating he was informed about the conversations that occurred during his father’s last political activities.
“I heard people discussing topics and questioning where I fit in. During Raila’s final days, he engaged with individuals from various groups. Inquire with those who attended those meetings to find out if I was present or not,” he stated.
This comes after a political discussion between Treasury Chief Secretary John Mbadi and EALA Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga.
Mbadi upheld his track record in public service as he urged for respect towards experienced leaders, including ODM leader Oburu Oginga.
He rejected the critiques aimed at him, arguing that his background in party leadership and governmental roles put him in a unique position that could not be challenged by individuals he considered to have lesser political influence.
Mbadi highlighted his years of experience in Parliament and positions within the opposition, such as his time in ODM leadership and his role as Minority Leader.
“I have served as chairman of ODM for 10 years under Raila Odinga, as Minority Leader for five years, and am currently a minister. These are significant accomplishments,” he stated.
The CS cautioned against what he called “youthful politics” in public discussion.
“Respect Oburu Oginga. You lack the ability to counsel me on how to serve as Finance Minister,” Mbadi stated.
“You can’t emerge from nowhere and begin giving me advice. First, run for an elected position, get elected, and then people will regard you as a true leader,” he stated.
He also maintained that he still believed in his political prospects, claiming he was fit for national leadership.
The comments follow an EALA MP’s criticism of the behavior of certain government officials.
She highlighted the National Treasury, describing it as a vital organization that should remain separate from political conflicts.
“The National Treasury is not a political position. The National Treasury of the Republic of Kenya is not an individual’s role,” she stated.
She mentioned that the organization has a crucial role in protecting the nation’s economic stability.
“The national treasury is not a political position. The national treasury of the Republic of Kenya is not a personal role. The national treasury of the biggest economy in East and Central Africa is not a place for you to mistreat us and speak to us anytime you want. This is where we manage our economy. The work of that office is to protect the value of citizens’ money,” she stated.
