The Foreign Ministry announced on the 22nd, in response to assertions made by South Korean activists who claimed they were arrested and injured by Israeli forces after boarding a ship heading to the Gaza Strip, “The government is seriously aware of the accounts from our citizens that there were instances of violence carried out by the Israeli military.”

The Ministry stated, “We have expressed our serious concerns to the Israeli party and will implement actions proportional to the severity of the situation based on the findings of the investigation.”

Activist Kim Ahyun (known as Haecho) stated on the same day she returned to South Korea with Kim Donghyun, “I was struck in the face several times by the Israeli military, and my left ear is currently having trouble hearing properly.”

Previously, the two individuals had taken different ships bound for the Gaza Strip to demonstrate against Israel’s restrictions on the area. They were detained after their vessels were confiscated by Israeli authorities and were set free on the 20th.
