The Constitutional Union (UC) and the Democratic and Social Movement (MDS) have announced that they will once again form a joint parliamentary group in the House of Representatives for the 12th legislative term, following consultations between the two parties’ leaders and MPs.
In a joint statement issued after the results of the September 23, 2026 legislative elections were announced, the parties attributed the decision to their shared positions and the success of their joint parliamentary work during the previous term.
They said that experience had strengthened their political and parliamentary presence, brought their work together and made the group more cohesive. The decision, they added, also reflects their aim to build on those gains and improve the effectiveness and quality of parliamentary work in the coming term.
Following their consultations, the parties agreed to strengthen the group’s presence in the House so that it can better fulfil its constitutional responsibilities. They said they would seek to improve its legislative work, oversight and advocacy, while encouraging closer cooperation among the group’s members and defending citizens’ concerns and expectations.
The parties said their previous collaboration had proved effective and that they intended to develop it further. They added that each party would retain its identity and independence within the joint group, which they said would work to improve parliamentary performance and serve the national interest.
