At the 2025 World’s 50 Best Bars ceremony, which took place in Hong Kong last night, Bar Leone in Hong Kong secured the top position on the list, becoming the first bar in Asia to receive this honor. It also won the title of Best Bar in Asia 2025.

Located in Hong Kong’s Central area, Bar Leone was created by Lorenzo Antinori, who has an impressive background working at some of Europe and Asia’s most popular hotel bars, such as London’s American Bar at The Savoy and the former Dandelyan. Based on the concept of “cocktail popolari” or “cocktails for the masses,” Bar Leone honors the neighborhood bars of Rome, where residents come together for coffee, aperitifs, and informal chats. The decor is a tribute to the city in the 1980s and 1990s and is meant to be welcoming, down-to-earth, and strongly connected to Italian culture and warmth.

The 2025 ranking includes bars from 29 cities, with eight new additions located in Athens, Bratislava, Guangzhou, Lima, New York, Oslo, Tirana, and Tokyo. In Bangkok, Bar Us climbed an impressive 26 spots to reach position 15, while BKK Social Club is now at position 49.

Among the 23 bars in Europe, London stood out as the top cocktail hub, featuring four venues: Tayer + Elementary at position 5, Connaught Bar at 6, Satan’s Whiskers at 21, and Scarfes Bar at 31. Edinburgh’s Panda and Sons also made the list at position 34.

The title of Best Bar in Europe was once again secured by Barcelona’s Sips at No.3, as co-founder Simone Caporale received the Industry Icon Award. Paradiso in Barcelona ranked No.4, while Madrid’s Salmon Guru placed at No.37. Athens maintains its rising status, with Line at No.8 and Baba au Rum, this year’s Legend Of The List, at No.27, along with the new entry The Bar In Front Of The Bar at No.47.

Milan’s Moebius Milano topped the rankings, climbing an impressive 31 spots to reach position 7. It was joined by 1930 in Milan at position 43, while Florence’s Locale Firenze was at 22 and Rome’s Drink Kong at 40. Paris featured Bar Nouveau, which climbed 22 positions to No.17, The Cambridge Public House (No.20), and Danico (No.30).

For the first time, bars from Eastern Europe made an appearance on the list, including Mirror Bar in Bratislava at position 25 and Nouvelle Vague in Tirana at position 28. In Scandinavia, Oslo’s Himkok (position 14) was joined by a new entry, Svanen, at position 32, along with Röda Huset in Stockholm at position 35.

New York City once again proved itself as North America’s leading hub for cocktails, with four establishments featured on this year’s list: Superbueno, which climbed 15 spots to rank 12th, was joined by new bar Sip and Guzzle (ranked 39th), recognized as this year’s Three Cents Best New Opening, along with Double Chicken Please (41st) and Overstory (46th). In New Orleans, Jewel Of The South holds the 44th position.

In Mexico City, the top bar in North America is Handshake Speakeasy located at No.2, while Tlecan, a new addition in 2024, is ranked at No.23. Bar Mauro, which appeared at No.54 on the extended list of bars from 51 to 100, has received the One To Watch Award. The Best Bar in South America is once more Tres Monos in Buenos Aires, positioned at No.10, with its neighbor CoChinChina at No.26. Lady Bee in Lima is ranked at No.13 and has won this year’s Art Of Hospitality Award, along with the new entry Sastrería Martinez at No.33. Alquímico in Cartagena is at No.11, and Tan Tanis in São Paulo is at No.24.

Three bars made the list, with Bar Benfiddich (No.18) standing strong, accompanied by Virtù at No.45 and new addition The Bellwood at No.48. The host city Hong Kong also featured Coa at No.38. In Singapore, Jigger and Pony is ranked No.9, with creative director and partner Uno Jang receiving this year’s Bartenders’ Bartender Award, while Nutmeg and Clove is listed at No.50. Seoul’s Zest is at No.16, along with new entry Hope and Sesame, marking the first bar from Guangzhou to appear on the list at No.29. The Best Cocktail Menu Award was won by Backdoor Bodega from Penang.

Mimi Kakushi in Dubai (No.36) received the title of Top Bar in the Middle East, while Nairobi’s Hero Bar was recognized as the Best Bar in Africa after securing position No.69 on the expanded list. This marks the first time these awards have been included in The World’s 50 Best Bars, as they were previously given out separately as The Best Bar in the Middle East and Africa.

At position 19, Melbourne’s Caretaker’s Cottage continues to hold the title of The Best Bar in Australasia, while Sydney’s Maybe Sammy is ranked at 42. The Best Bar Design Award goes to Sydney’s Tigra + Disco Pantera.
