President Cyril Ramaphosahas named the Minister of FinanceEnoch Godongwanaas the Acting President during his series of international trips.
According to the Presidency, Deputy President Paul Mashatilewill be away during this time.
The presidential spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, verified the interim appointment on Tuesday, explaining that it was decided upon considering the President’s upcoming international trips.
President Ramaphosa will be visiting Indonesia on October 21, 2025, with a planned working trip set for October 22, 2025.
He will next travel to Vietnam for an official visit on October 23-24.
After that, the President will travel to Malaysia from October 24 to 27 for another State Visit, during which he will also attend a Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Magwenya stated that the President’s travel schedule aims to “enhance South Africa’s bilateral ties with the host nations, especially in areas of trade and investment.”
He mentioned that the visits would also “help South Africa enhance collaboration with allied nations in international organizations, and support the President’s efforts in preparing for his leadership of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg on 22 and 23 November 2025.”
Following his activities in Southeast Asia, Ramaphosa is set to make a State Visit to Switzerland on October 29-30, according to Magwenya.
