Kathmandu, October 21 — The authorities have distributed Rs4.8 million to address urgent costs for those who were harmed during the Gen Z protest. This sum was given to offer Rs20,000 to each injured person, as per an initial report from the Ministry of Health and Population, according to the prime minister’s office on Tuesday.
The initial batch has arrived in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Kaski, Surkhet, Kailali, and Dadeldhura, as reported by the Home Ministry.
The Cabinet, on September 28, gave approval for immediate assistance until a technical committee could identify the victims and organize suitable aid. To date, the Health Ministry has provided details of 2,429 injured people. Identification cards were also given to those who were hurt during the demonstrations on September 8-9 to ensure they receive proper medical care, with 2,876 cards sent to local administrative offices and 38 distributed by hospitals.
Hospitals have established Gen Z clinics for ongoing care, offering free transportation to patients, according to the prime minister’s office.
The Ministry of Health has set up a helpline and appointed contacts to support those affected. A technical committee, comprising members from the injured, is being created to classify cases and monitor aid. Over Rs1 billion has been allocated for treatment up to now.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has allocated Rs1.5 million to each family of the 53 individuals who lost their lives during the protest, covering both financial assistance and burial costs. Forty-nine families have already received the money, with four still in the process. The Cabinet had earlier approved Rs1 million for financial support and Rs500,000 for funeral and related expenses.
