The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has condemned opposition parties throughout Nigeria, labeling them as aimless and devoid of clear objectives.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, noted that the APC has been watching with worry the worsening condition of opposition politics in the nation as the 2027 general elections approach.

He pointed out that the lack of a reliable opposition was detrimental to Nigeria’s democracy.

Instead of functioning as reliable monitors, policy critics, or intellectual alternatives to the ruling party, the opposition has transformed into a group of people in desperation, confusion, and insincerity – the main obstacles to Nigeria’s democratic progress.

The vitality of a democracy is judged by the caliber, depth, and gravity of its opposition – its concepts, structure, and steadfastness.

Regrettably, Nigeria’s opposition has miserably failed in every aspect. It is devoid of leadership, unity, and a unifying political ideology.

The country has observed with shock as people who previously asserted their commitment to ideological integrity now move rapidly between different platforms in pursuit of individual significance.

“The opposition’s sense of ethics has been entirely lost, resulting in a group of self-serving individuals who are only united by their desire for authority,” Oladejo stated.

He likened the present condition of opposition politics to the time when President Bola Tinubu headed the opposition, calling Tinubu a “skilled political strategist and democrat” who formed a coalition rooted in principles, concepts, and organization.

As he stated, Tinubu’s approach to opposition was characterized by a clear objective, a defined ideological path, and steady involvement.

“He presented Nigerians with a believable option based on progressive values, effective leadership, and national solidarity,” he stated.

Oladejo pointed out that the APC was a result of that deliberate and issue-focused resistance, mentioning that it demonstrated what forward-thinking politics could accomplish when motivated by patriotism.

“The APC of the present day showcases the accomplishments that can be achieved through forward-thinking and accountable opposition politics, fueled by patriotism instead of individual aspirations,” he stated.

He mentioned that President Tinubu’s government has continued to concentrate on executing the Renewed Hope Agenda with bravery and resolve, enacting challenging but essential reforms to restructure the economy and revive national dignity.

Oladejo condemned the opposition parties for not offering clear strategies regarding the economy, safety, education, or societal progress.

The APC is concerned that none of the opposition parties have offered a clear plan for the economy, security, education, or social progress.

Their standard approach continues to be attacking government policies without presenting any believable substitutes.

“Such a trivial and directionless opposition can only hinder the advancement of democracy by turning public debate into chaos and confusion,” he added.

He mentioned that Nigerians are growing less interested in opposition parties that fail to build trust or provide a vision for improvement.

Democracy flourishes through options – and when one faction within the political spectrum repeatedly fails to progress, people tend to lose interest in the system.

Let it be clear that democracy flourishes not only through the holding of elections but also through the level of interaction between the governing party and a proactive opposition.

“Regrettably, the current situation consists of a disjointed collection of self-proclaimed saviors and former politicians who confuse online chatter with true national significance,” he stated.
