Sri Lanka, November 3 – Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican’s representative for relations with states and international organizations, arrived in Sri Lanka today (3) for an official trip. He was welcomed at Bandaranaike International Airport by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Employment, Hon. Arun Hemachandra.

The Archbishop’s trip, set to last until November 8, 2025, is being carried out at the request of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath to mark the 50th year of diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and the Vatican.

While in the country, Archbishop Gallagher is scheduled to meet with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and engage in formal discussions with Minister Vijitha Herath. A unique commemorative function will take place at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, where the Archbishop will give a speech.

The initiative also features tours of locations with cultural and religious importance throughout Sri Lanka, including churches impacted by the Easter Sunday bombings in 2019.
