Sri Lanka, November 3 – The Commission for Inquiring into Claims of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has chosen to carry out an in-depth examination of the properties held by high-ranking officials within various government bodies, such as the Police, the Tri-Forces, the Prisons Department, Sri Lanka Customs, and the Immigration and Emigration Department.

The Commission also mentioned that internal inquiries have already begun concerning certain officers from these institutions, following complaints that indicated connections between them and organized crime.

A high-ranking representative from the Anti-Bribery Authority mentioned that the authority has chosen to carry out these inquiries quickly because of the ongoing complaints it gets about specific officials within these organizations.

The Commission mentioned that while it carries out investigations by acquiring annual declarations of assets and liabilities from government officials, it is also looking into whether any corruption-related violations have taken place beyond this scope. The Commission is getting ready to examine the asset records of senior police officers and the Tri-Services in the first stage of this inquiry, and later expand it to those with lower ranks.

A high-ranking representative from the Commission mentioned that following this, various revenue-producing organizations within the nation and those associated with the public will be observed for this reason, and actions will be implemented to recruit more personnel on a contractual basis to perform these tasks.
