Sri Lanka, November 3 – M.D.C.A. Perera, the head of the National Lottery Board (NLB), disclosed during a recent press conference that legal measures will be enforced against the wife of MP Hesha Withanage and the sister-in-law of former Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, who are accused of deceiving the board.
As per Perera, the two people who acted as district representatives for the NLB are charged with diverting more than Rs. 120,000 following the sale of over 500,000 lottery tickets.
In response to these allegations, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP), addressed a media conference in Colombo on Friday (01) and refuted claims that he had issued a document allowing his family members to act as representatives of the National Lottery Board.
Nevertheless, letters allegedly issued in 2016 to secure new roles as sales representatives at the NLB—contradicting Kariyawasam’s denial—have recently come to light.
