The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development revealed that its suggested budget for 2026 totals 560.4 million dirhams, with 116.6 million dirhams allocated for investment credits.
The proposal, set to be introduced next week in front of the House of Representatives’ infrastructure committee, outlines funding to enhance energy security, upgrade digital infrastructure, and encourage the responsible stewardship of natural resources, according to .
Inside the investment budget, the ministry intends to allocate 2 million dirhams for information technology and cybersecurity systems to enhance data security.
It also allocated 1 million dirhams for a research project on the national mining strategy and 3.5 million dirhams as a contribution to the International Finance Corporation for a technical analysis of Morocco’s natural gas plan.
A total of 10 million dirhams will be allocated to sustain the national geological mapping initiative, while an additional 2 million dirhams will be directed to the National Energy and Mining Laboratory in Casablanca for the acquisition of new testing equipment.
An additional 4.2 million dirhams have been set aside for the purchase of three mobile laboratories to check fuel quality, along with 2.3 million dirhams for maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.
The ministry’s initiative also involves 3.5 million dirhams for creating a unified digital applications network that facilitates connectivity among departmental systems, along with 4.5 million dirhams to set up an electronic registry for handling certificates of origin and strategic oversight.
In the field of sustainable development, the budget assigned amounts to 247.5 million dirhams, with 173.8 million designated for operational costs.
Approximately 77 million dirhams will be allocated for equipment and general expenses to enhance the National Laboratory for Pollution Studies and Monitoring, with the goal of establishing it as a leading center for pollution control in line with regulatory requirements.
The government will also fund the monitoring of beach water and sand quality along two-thirds of Morocco’s shoreline, public education initiatives regarding environmental conservation, and involvement in the UN Climate Change Conference.
The document emphasizes further research to enhance Morocco’s national chemical inventory, develop a circular economy strategy for key industries, and update the national emergency plan to address marine pollution.
The ministry stated that the budget will also include Morocco’s financial commitments to global environmental organizations and funding for regional and central offices, such as rent, upkeep, security, and cleaning of premises, as part of initiatives to improve environmental management and international collaboration.
