A conference regarding renewable energy electricity generation initiatives was held on Monday in Rabat, with the leadership of Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch. The pact seeks to advance comprehensive projects that encourage energy efficiency and aid Morocco’s shift towards eco-friendly power production.
As per a declaration from the Prime Minister’s office, the conference unites the government, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), and the National Agency for Strategic Management of State Holdings and Oversight of Public Establishments and Enterprises (ANGSPE).
As part of Morocco’s larger goal to speed up the National Renewable Energy Program (PNER), the agreement marks an important advancement in reshaping collaborations between the government and public companies to support a secure, effective, and long-term energy shift.
It aims to supply 5 gigawatts of clean electricity for Moroccan industry by 2030, while reducing expenses throughout the supply chain and guaranteeing a balanced sharing of duties between ONEE and MASEN. The framework also enhances legal and financial security for renewable energy initiatives, in line with the State’s involvement strategy to enhance cooperation among public organizations.
Prime Minister Akhannouch mentioned that renewable energy sources now make up 46% of Morocco’s total electricity generation capacity, aiming to exceed 52% by 2030.
The agreement was ratified by the Minister of Economy and Finance, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Minister Delegate responsible for the Budget, the Director General of ANGSPE, the Director General of ONEE, and the CEO of MASEN.
