The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, will take legal action against those who damage Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) through strengthened legal measures.
The Commandant of the NSCDC FCT, Olusola Odumosu, announced this during a one-day seminar held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Odumosu stated that those who commit offenses will face consequences according to the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, as updated by the ‘Designation and Protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure Order, 2024.’
The internal seminar, he mentioned, was held to educate staff on the details of the Cybercrimes Act and the CNII Regulation. (NAN)
He pointed out that certain people arrested for vandalism or theft of CNII—such as fiber optic cables and transmission towers, among other items—were previously being prosecuted under standard laws that applied solely to theft or deliberate destruction.
He mentioned that these penalties had not effectively tackled the national security, economic, and strategic consequences of interfering with CNII.
As stated by the Commandant, CNII continues to be a fundamental responsibility of the Corps, and every member must be fully committed to safeguarding Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) for the country’s development. (NAN)
