The UNESCO Chair at the International University of Rabat (UIR) has officially unveiled the 2025 cycle of the World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) program. This year’s project is titled «Phygital Heritage: Chellah & Oudayas between Virtual and Gamification». Running from November 10 to 20, 2025, the initiative will bring together young volunteers from Morocco and globally to concentrate on safeguarding and showcasing cultural heritage «using modern technologies and creative teaching methods», according to a press statement.

This launch marks the beginning of a week-long series of events, “combining heritage, technology, and civic participation.” The schedule includes “workshops on 3D modeling, photogrammetry, augmented and virtual reality,” as well as “the development of an interactive 3D model and an immersive experience focused on the famous sites of Chellah and Oudayas.”

The university emphasizes that these activities are part of a project aimed at making heritage «more accessible, more enjoyable, and more inclusive, while actively engaging local communities». This initiative is backed by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Sports, the Rabat-Salé Urban Agency, the Rabat Heritage Society, and the University of Florence.
