The corpses of Russian cryptocurrency billionaireRoman Novakand his wife, Anna, were discovered in pieces and buried in the desert close to Dubai.

The couple was found a month following their disappearance in early October after several days of no communication.

They were last observed traveling to a lake close to the Hatta mountain resort to meet an “unidentified investor.”

Roman Novak, 38, along with his wife Anna, lost their lives in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following an encounter with fraudulent investors who tricked them into traveling there, according to officials.

As per reports, the pair, who are both located in Dubai, went to the Hatta mountain retreat close to the Oman border to meet people they thought were possible investors.

Just before he vanished, Novak messaged his contacts, stating he was “trapped in the mountains near the Oman border” and urgently required £152,000. Shortly thereafter, communication was lost.

Surveys indicated that the couple had been taken against their will, pressured for access to cryptocurrency, and eventually murdered. Novak’s digital wallet was discovered to be empty.

Emirati authorities found evidence of Anna Novak’s blood at a residence, in a leased vehicle, a stockpile of knives, and a shirt thought to be worn by one of the offenders. Their remains were later discovered buried in the desert of the UAE.

Three Russian citizens have been arrested in Russia following their return from Dubai. They are known as Konstantin Shakht, 53, who previously worked as a homicide detective before becoming a drug trafficker, and Yury Sharypov, 46, and Vladimir Dalekin, 45, both former soldiers who served in the Ukraine conflict. According to reports, they pretended to be investors in order to kidnap the couple and request the password to Novak’s cryptocurrency wallet.

Five additional Russian citizens, all below the age of 25, are reportedly connected to the case. The three primary suspects have been held in detention until December 28.

Novak, who claimed to have connections with affluent individuals, including Telegram’s founder Pavel Durov, was being probed for allegedly swindling over £38 million from investors in China, the Middle East, and other regions by pretending to be involved in business growth.

Accounts portray him as a “skilled manipulator” who portrayed himself as a wealthy individual, despite authorities stating he had a background in embezzlement. He had previously been incarcerated in Russia and managed a cryptocurrency network created by Ukrainian developers.

The couple’s children are being cared for by Anna Novak’s parents in Russia. Russian and UAE officials are still looking into the matter.
