Namibia, together with TerraWatt, a Dutch firm, officially started construction on a 50-megawatt solar initiative at Astra farm in the Omaheke area last Friday.
During the inauguration event, Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines, and Energy Gaudentia Kröhne stated that this marks a significant advancement in the nation’s dedication to renewable energy and environmentally friendly growth.
This initiative reflects the Namibian government’s ambition to reshape the energy industry and encourage broad-based economic development.
She mentions that the 50MW solar park represents a shift, optimism, teamwork, and Namibia’s goal to emerge as a pioneer in renewable energy across Africa.
She praised TerraWatt for selecting Namibia as the location for the initiative, for having faith in the people, organizations, and territory, and for the sense of collaboration.
Established in 2017, TerraWatt started with the goal of supplying residential and commercial clients with solar panel systems.
As per Kröhne, in addition to producing clean and dependable power, the initiative will also
Generate employment opportunities, boost regional economies, and assist in the fight against global warming.
“This initiative highlights the capacity of cutting-edge technologies to stimulate economic development and enhance the well-being of our people,” she stated.
She mentioned that they will keep advancing the energy sector, and it is essential to focus on sustainability and innovation.
“Projects focused on renewable energy, such as this one, play a vital role in decreasing our dependence on non-renewable resources and combating the effects of global warming,” she said.
