The Royal Thai Police has released a critical alert regarding a new fraudulent method using artificial intelligence, where individuals are unintentionally transformed into financial intermediaries due to AI-created identity theft.
Brigadier General Teeradej Thamsuthee, deputy head of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, stated that current investigations have revealed a complex technique employed by fraud groups: AI deceiving AI.
The approach involves employing AI-created face animations to circumvent online identity verification processes, essentially making unaware people collaborators in financial fraud.
The plan was uncovered during a police operation on November 9, which focused on the financial center of a fraud ring in Bangkok. The group had recently moved from a nearby country.
The mission, headed by Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, the deputy national police chief, led to the capture of four Chinese individuals, as well as the confiscation of four computers and 60 mobile phones.
