A flight attendant has shared the hidden communication system used by easyJet cabin crew during flights – including amusing animal movements that signify various meals.
An unidentified airline cabin crew member recently made an appearance in avideo posted on the carrier’s Instagram account, where she shared that flight attendants do not always have the ability to communicate directly with each other.
As stated by the flight attendant, the mix of engine sounds, the size of the cabin, and the necessity for staff to communicate secretly among over 200 passengers necessitates a ‘hidden’ set of non-verbal signals.
These actions enable cabin crew to convey information swiftly and discreetly – a feature that proves especially beneficial when serving meals.
A flight attendant said, ‘As cabin crew, you might already know, but we have a hidden code on the plane – a method of signaling to one another when we need food items.’
And with more than 200 passengers aboard, the aircraft is quite lengthy, so you might have observed that if you want a ham and cheese sandwich, we offer a croque monsieur.
The flight attendant showed a crocodile movement with her hands to indicate the ‘croque monsieur’ sandwich, then stretched one arm like a chicken wing and rotated her hands together to represent a chicken wrap.
Regarding a calzone, flight attendants usually press the heels of their hands together and then bring their fingers together, signaling the ‘fold’ of the baked Italian pastry.

In the video’s comment section, many viewers expressed their amazement, with one stating: ‘Truly legendary!’
A second person remarked: “I witnessed a crew member doing this to another crew member, and I realized it was an internal sign language!”
Another addition: “I frequently watch the team doing this, trying to figure out what they’re talking about lol.”
Meanwhile, one flight attendant mentioned: ‘We have another sign for pizza. It’s a triangle above our heads. For tuna, we make a fish move with our hands.’
