The globe is still reeling from the unprecedented ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which drew massive worldwide attention, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has already announced the calendar for the first-ever ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy T20I competition.
It’s important to mention that the ICC appears to be acting quickly while the momentum is high, considering the World Cup tournament attracted over 500 million viewers in India and experienced notable increases in audience numbers worldwide.
The Women’s Cricket Week, a program aimed at increasing awareness and involvement in women’s cricket, featured over 40 nations organizing activities to support diversity within the game.
Almost 300,000 spectators watched games throughout India and Sri Lanka, and the tournament ended with India making history as the first Asian side to win the Women’s Cricket World Cup, marking a significant turning point in the development of the game and the societal perception of gender roles.
On Sunday, it was revealed that theWomen’s Rising Nations Trophy T20Iwill take place in Bangkok, Thailand, between November 20 and 30, representing another major step forward in the ICC’s global plan to support women’s cricket and increase participation around the world.
Eight teams — Thailand, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, the United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda — will take part in two locations, the Terdthai Cricket Ground and the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok.
The timing seems right. Leveraging the remarkable momentum generated by the World Cup, the ICC remains committed to fostering a lasting future for women’s cricket. The Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy is a key component of a newly established three-tier development structure aimed at providing top-level competitive experience to rising nations.
Sanjog Gupta, the ICC’s chief executive, stated that the goal of the competition is to nurture athletes from different parts of the globe.
The ICC and the Chair’s goal is to permanently increase cricket’s presence globally and enhance the women’s game. Offering top athletes from developing countries more chances to compete at the highest level is intended to accelerate their growth and strengthen the competitiveness of their teams.
“It also enhances the visibility of the sport in participating countries, acting as a catalyst for girls’ participation in the sport and encouraging women from other nations to remain dedicated to the development paths,” stated Gupta.
The competition begins on November 20, with the final set to take place on Sunday, November 30. The first day will include matches between Thailand and the Netherlands, as well as Papua New Guinea versus the UAE.
