The South African Women’s Sevens team began their campaign in the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup impressively on Saturday, scoring 17 tries without allowing any from their opponents as they defeated Mauritius 68-0 and Zimbabwe 47-0 at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.

Two victories secured their spot in Sunday morning’s quarter-final match against Ghana. With momentum in their favor, the Bok Women defeated Ghana 48-0, advancing to the semi-finals without conceding a single point.

Maria Tshiremba netted three goals as the South Africans maintained their strong performance in the competition.

Quick beginning establishes the mood

South Africa began their campaign with a strong performance against Mauritius. Maria Tshiremba scored twice in the first half, netting in the first minute and again after Simamkele Namba made a break following the restart. Nadine Roos contributed a try with a clever feint and go, while Namba’s second effort ensured a 33-0 advantage at halftime.

The bench maintained the momentum. Ayanda Malinga and Patience Mokone scored shortly after coming into the game, Vianca Boer added two more tries, and Mokone completed the 10-try effort with a final score just before time expired.

Zimbabwe overpowered

The second game followed a comparable sequence. Roos scored two initial tries and converted a Namba effort, enabling South Africa to take a 21-0 advantage at the break.

Tshiremba started the second-half scoring, after which Mokone took charge, scoring three tries in rapid succession to secure another decisive victory.
