Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian football powerhouses, Young Africans SC (Yanga), are set to move their training camp from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar tomorrow as they step up their preparations for their CAF Champions League group stage match against Morocco’s ASFAR.
The highly anticipated game is set for November 22 at the New Amaan Stadium, starting at 4pm East Africa Time.
The group has been participating in a rigorous on-site training session at Avic Town, supervised by their newly hired chief coach, Pedro Gonçalves.
This game will signify Gonçalves’ first appearance in the continental tournament as Yanga’s manager.
A major increase in the team’s enthusiasm comes from the return of Ibrahim “Bacca” Hamad and Mudathir Yahya to training.
Both athletes were excluded from the latest Taifa Stars games because of injuries, and their rehabilitation is a significant encouraging development before the CAF Champions League start.
According to reports from the camp, Bacca has completely returned to training, while Mudathir is currently taking part in limited sessions and is set to join fully once the team moves to Zanzibar.
The comeback of Bacca and Mudathir is a significant advantage for us. We will move to Zanzibar for additional preparations before ASFAR.
A source from the team mentioned, ‘We are approaching the match with great seriousness because we are up against a powerful opponent.’
Yanga, the current champions of the Tanzania Mainland Premier League, encounter a difficult test in their Caf Champions’ League group.
They have been paired with Egypt’s Al Ahly, ASFAR from Morocco, and Algeria’s JS Kabylie.
The team is considered among the strongest in the competition, including some of Africa’s most accomplished clubs.
Al Ahly, the 12-time champions of Africa, pose the most difficult challenge in the group, while ASFAR and JS Kabylie offer significant continental experience along with enthusiastic home crowd support.
The combination of skill, heritage, and strategic focus within the team is expected to lead to fierce competitions and critical moments for Yanga.
Club representatives have highlighted a methodical strategy, underlining the significance of approaching each game with concentration and dignity.
After reaching the Caf Confederation Cup final two seasons back, Yanga hope to continue their recent success on the continental stage and position themselves as a strong contender in Africa’s top club tournament.
Coach Gonçalves has emphasized the significance of team unity, tactical focus, and psychological preparedness.
The arrangements in Dar es Salaam, along with the concluding training session in Zanzibar, will play a vital role in shaping their group stage performance.
The return of Bacca and Mudathir provides a major morale boost, raising hopes that Yanga can genuinely aim for advancement to the knockout rounds while highlighting Tanzanian football on the continental level.
