Asmara, November 18, 2025 – The Ministry of Health, along with the Ministries of Agriculture and Land, Water and Environment, and United Nations partners, has launched the World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week campaign with the theme “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.” The initiative is set to run from November 17 to 24.

During the event held on 17 November at the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers Hall in Asmara, officials from collaborating organizations shared statements of encouragement.

At the gathering, several discussion papers were shared, highlighting Multi-Drug Resistant Klebsiella Pneumoniae, a cross-sectional analysis of bacterial pathogens and results, and research on antimicrobial resistance trends in urinary tract infections. In turn, the attendees engaged in detailed conversations about the presented papers.

Talking to Erina, Dr. Mulugeta Russom, who is the Head of Drug Side-Effect Management at the National Medicine and Food Administration and the program’s coordinator, mentioned that the purpose of the event is to increase awareness among health and agricultural professionals as well as the general public, ensuring the proper use of medicines and antibiotics.

Dr. Goitom Mebrahtu, the Director General of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health, stated that this year’s theme emphasizes the need for immediate and collaborative efforts regarding antimicrobial medications to protect the health and welfare of coming generations.
