A statement from the Archdiocese of Kaduna, sent to Fides, says that it is not true that Father Bobbo Paschal was killed, refuting rumors on various social media platforms claiming that the priest who was kidnapped on November 17 (see Fides, 18/11/2025) was killed. ‘Unconfirmed reports are spreading on social media stating that the kidnapped priest, Bobbo Paschal, has died,’ the statement says, signed by Father Christian Okewu Emmanuel, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Kaduna. ‘We want to reject these claims as entirely false and baseless,’ explains Monsignor Emmanuel. ‘Father Paschal is alive, and the authorities are doing everything possible to ensure his safe return.’

The archdiocese is urging “the public, bloggers, and social media users to avoid sharing unverified details, as this may lead to unwarranted fear, emotional harm to the priest’s family, and complicate efforts to obtain his freedom.”

The archdiocese once more expresses gratitude to the faithful for their prayers and assistance, and requests that prayers keep being offered for the release of Father Paschal and the others still held by their captors,” the statement adds, ending with the recommendation that “any information not shared via our official channels should be disregarded.
