Federal High Court Abuja’s Justice James Omotosho has determined that the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is guilty of terrorist activities.
The judge ruled that the prosecution successfully demonstrated the elements of the charge against him.
Remember that the federal government had summoned five witnesses and presented stacks of documentary and video evidence to demonstrate that Kanu committed terrorist acts through his social media broadcasts, which resulted in the deaths of many Nigerians in the Southeast.
Nevertheless, Kanu was unable to present his defense for the seven-count charge, leading the court to declare him in default and schedule a hearing for November 20 for a ruling.
Rendering a verdict, Justice Omotosho mentioned that facts that are not disputed are considered to be acknowledged, and then declared him guilty in count one, which involves committing Acts of Terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria by making a broadcast with the intention of intimidating the populace.
Omotosho also declared Kanu guilty on count two, which involves broadcasting with the intent to intimidate the public, particularly in the five southeastern states.
Kanu was additionally found guilty on count three for being a member and leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra.
Details later.
