Zimbabwe has welcomed new advancements in its efforts to enhance local value chains, commending the government, businesses, and local producers for what it calls substantial and visible progress in restoring the nation’s industrial foundation.

The organization’s comments come after the launch on Thursday of Cut Rag Processors’ new tobacco processing facility in Harare, a move viewed as a significant enhancement to the nation’s manufacturing capabilities and its goal to increase value addition.

Zimbabwe’s investment highlights the effect of intentional local content strategies that are enhancing competitiveness, encouraging innovation, and restoring confidence among local manufacturers aiming for both domestic and international markets.

The team also praised the government’s initiatives to strengthen food production independence.

It emphasized Statutory Instrument 87, which encourages the local purchase of agricultural products as a crucial step in enhancing domestic supply chains and supporting farmers across the country.

Zimbabwe’s ongoing achievements in wheat farming, leading to self-sufficiency and surplus production over multiple seasons, was highlighted as an example of what effective policies and unified national efforts can accomplish.

The group has consistently promoted greater use of the nation’s internal production capabilities.

Zimbabwe’s chairperson, Munyaradzi Hwengwere, stated that the recent progress indicates the nation’s industrial resurgence is no longer just a theoretical goal.

“The expansion taking place in industries like tobacco processing and wheat farming indicates that Zimbabwe’s industrial resurgence is not just theoretical, but is actually occurring. Local content programs are effective and should receive ongoing backing,” he stated.

He also recognized the government’s direction through the Local Content Strategy, highlighting the continuous cooperation among Buy Zimbabwe, ministries, regulators, producers, and the private sector to increase local involvement in procurement, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, and services.

“Each investment in local manufacturing contributes to the country’s wealth. By purchasing goods from Zimbabwe and backing homegrown industries, we strengthen our economy, generate more employment opportunities, and protect our national dignity,” Hwengwere remarked.
