President Tinubu has delayed his planned visit to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, while he waits for additional security updates regarding the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls.

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to move to Kebbi State following the kidnapping of 24 female students in the region.

Former Zamfara State governor Mr Matawalle was requested to stay in the state to oversee security operations aimed at facilitating the release of the kidnapped students.

A group of armed individuals seized 24 students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School located in Maga town, Kebbi State, approximately at 4 am on Monday.

Mr. Matawalle, set to arrive in Birni-Kebbi on Friday, accumulated some expertise in handling banditry and large-scale abductions while serving as the governor of Zamfara State from 2019 to 2023.

On 26 February 2021, armed criminals kidnapped 279 female students between the ages of 10 and 17 from the Government Girls Science Secondary School, a residential institution located in Jangebe, Zamfara State. The captors set all the hostages free on 2 March 2021.
