Kiyovu SC has removed forward Amissi Cedric from his role as captain, citing inappropriate behavior during the team’s last two league games against Gasogi United and Al-Merreikh. This decision came after an incident where the Burundi international tossed his armband in front of head coach Francis Haringingo, protesting being substituted during Monday’s 2-0 loss to Al-Merreikh. The club stated that it no longer has confidence in the player, calling the action unacceptable for a team captain. Along with losing the armband, the former Rayon Sports player received a two-match suspension for his actions. Amissi quickly apologized and took full responsibility, explaining that his behavior stemmed from frustration. “I was in a moment of frustration, nothing more. It was never my intention to disrespect the badge, the fans, my teammates or the management,” he said in an Instagram post. “I was angry at myself, not anyone else. But I understand how it looked, and for that, I am truly sorry.” Amissi, 35, joined Kiyovu SC in August on a one-year contract after being overlooked by his previous club Rayon Sports following several trials.
