• Barcelona’s team bus was attacked shortly before their Champions League match against Chelsea in London.
  • No significant incidents were noted, yet Barcelona ended up losing the match 3-0 following a standout display by the home team.
  • Estevao and Marc Cucurella took the center stage on their home ground on a night when Lamine Yamal did not perform well.

It has recently come to light that Barcelona’s team bus was targeted shortly before their Champions League match against Chelsea on Tuesday evening.

The top team in La Liga suffered a clear defeat at Chelsea’s home ground, Stamford Bridge, an unusual event for Hansi Flick.

Where did the bus attack occur in Barcelona?

Football London states that the bus was attacked while en route to Stamford Bridge for the evening match.

The staff needed to repair a broken window on the Barcelona team bus, and the ‘shaken’ players were quickly taken to Gatwick Airport following the match. Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the event.

Barcelona ended up suffering a significant defeat as Enzo Maresca surpassed his counterpart. The match might have taken a different turn if Ferran Torres had converted his opportunity in the fourth minute.

How Chelsea beat Barcelona

The Blues had three goals ruled out due to offside, but an own goal by Jules Kounde, a brilliant strike from Estevao, and a late goal from Liam Delap secured all three points.

This was the first instance where a team managed by Flick did not manage to score a single goal in the Champions League.

Barcelona concluded the match with 10 players when Ronald Araujo received a red card following two yellow cards. The player of the night was initially cautioned for arguing with the referee before committing a foul on Marc Cucurella.

The outcome moved Chelsea to fifth position in the 36-team league, earning them 10 points before the Wednesday games. Barcelona are in 15th place with seven points. Only the top eight teams will advance to the Round of 16, while those ranked from ninth to 24th will enter the knockout stages.

Chelsea’s next match will be a journey to Bergamo to take on Atalanta, following their league games against Arsenal, Leeds United, and Bournemouth. The Blues are currently in second place in the Premier League, six points behind their upcoming opponents.

Barcelona, on the other hand, will aim to recover as they host Eintracht Frankfurt, marking the first time since 2023 that Camp Nou will be the venue for a Champions League match.

Prior to that, the La Liga champions will continue their quest for the title with matches against Alaves, Atletico Madrid, and Real Betis. They are just one point behind their rivals, Real Madrid.

UEFA publishes pictures of Chelsea’s opening goal

Jules Kounde’s own goal was reviewed and confirmed by VAR, even though Marc Cucurella appeared to be in an offside position.

Cucurella obtained the ball from a corner play before passing it to Pedro Neto, who tried to head it, causing Kounde to inadvertently knock it into his own goal.

UEFA published the official images demonstrating that Cucurella was in an onside position due to Pau Cubarsi when the ball was passed.
