Two prominent teams in the HBL Pakistan Super League, the Karachi Kings and Islamabad United, have ensured their continued presence in the competition by extending their franchise rights for an additional ten years.

The revival of Karachi Kings, the 2020 HBL PSL champions, highlights the ownership’s dedication to a team that has one of the biggest fan following in the league. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi commended the ongoing collaboration, stating that Salman Iqbal and his team have raised the profile of the HBL PSL and created a brand that is recognized both within Pakistan and internationally. Salman Naseer, CEO of HBL PSL, further mentioned that the Kings’ enthusiasm, drive, and focus on nurturing talent have been crucial to the league’s achievements.

In a similar manner, Islamabad United, the PSL’s most successful team with three championships, will continue to be owned by its current owners for the next decade. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised franchise owner Ali Naqvi for his professionalism and ongoing efforts, referring to the extension as a reaffirmation of confidence in the league’s vision and long-term business direction. CEO Salman Naseer emphasized Islamabad United’s leading role, stating that their data-focused approach and dedication to innovation have “established performance benchmarks that defined the character of the PSL.”

ALI TAREEN SAYS GOODBYE AS MULTAN SULTANS’ OWNER

Ali Tareen, the owner of Multan Sultans, stated on Tuesday that he will not renew the PSL franchise ownership agreement, marking a heartfelt end to his time with the 2021 champions.

In a social media post, Tareen mentioned ongoing financial losses as a major reason for his choice, stating he would “rather lose this team while standing tall than run it from a position of weakness.” He referred to his tenure with the Sultans as one of the biggest honors of his life, remembering the pride his late uncle, Alamgir Tareen, felt in representing South Punjab.

Tareen mentioned that he regularly reminded players and staff about the values of the area, such as resilience, dedication, and hard work, and noted that supporters would overlook a loss but would never accept a lack of effort. Although there was annual financial pressure, he emphasized that he never thought about leaving until renewing the contract required sacrificing his personal beliefs.

Saying goodbye, Tareen encouraged his supporters to keep supporting the franchise, stating that the Sultans “belong to the people of South Punjab,” and pledged to stay in the stands as a loyal fan.
