Kaizer Chiefs’ DStv Diski Challenge squad is set to undertake a trip to England as they keep working on expanding their reach, enhancing their skills, and gaining global recognition after their impressive performance in the 2024/25 season.
The Amakhosi reserves, who are the current DDC champions, secured the journey to Europe as part of their prize for winning the title.
Their timetable features high-profile matches against the Under-21 teams of Manchester United, Leeds United, and Queens Park Rangers, offering the young team an opportunity to test their skills against some of the top academies in global football.
In addition to the matches, the team will also tour the academies of Manchester United and Liverpool, where they are anticipated to acquire important knowledge from exchange sessions with top-tier youth development programs.
Before the trip, Captain Thulani Mabaso thanked the opportunity and emphasized the goals they have in mind.
“I appreciate the club for offering me this chance. My individual objective is to win every match,” Mabaso stated.
Mabaso joined the Chiefs’ pre-season trip to Europe this year, and he feels that the experience has been vital in enhancing his grasp of the global game — insights he has since incorporated into his play.
That tour was very beneficial for me as I gained insight into how football is played abroad. It focuses more on passing rather than spending a lot of time with the ball.
Even the teams we faced are those that participate at the top level, in events like the Uefa Europa League, which was very beneficial.
Focusing on the upcoming matches in England, Mabaso states the team’s goals are straightforward: they aim to compete, deliver strong performances, and uphold the club’s dignity, while striving to enhance their overall performance as a unit.
As a group, we must put in the effort and support each other, and above all, we need to act as a unified team to secure our success. When teams travel to these competitions, they do so for the experience, but we are confident in our ability to win.
A 21-year-old midfielder still aims to become a consistent member of the first team, a goal he thinks is within reach if he keeps putting in the effort with his current club.
Everything revolves around maintaining a positive attitude in every aspect of life. You must be patient and put in the effort. I remain optimistic at all times, and I am confident that my opportunity will come. When it arrives, I will seize it firmly.
The first team, on the other hand, is getting ready to take on Zambian powerhouses Zesco United this weekend in the second group match of the CAF Confederation Cup.
