Moroccan international Zakaria El Ouahdi has been awarded the Belgian Lion 2025, an honor that celebrates the top player of Maghreb heritage competing in the Belgian Pro League, according to his team, Racing Genk. The 23-year-old athlete secured 40.5% of the votes. His fellow countryman from Union Saint-Gilloise, Sofiane Boufal, obtained 12.7% of the votes.
Last season, Zakaria El Ouahdi proved essential for Genk, featuring in 40 games (scoring 8 goals and making 2 assists). From the beginning of this season, the Moroccan player has participated in 12 matches (netting 4 goals and contributing 1 assist), but has been absent since September because of a shoulder injury.
