Samsung Electronics introduced the three-fold foldable smartphone ‘Galaxy Z Tri-Fold’ on the 2nd. The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold is an advanced version of foldable phones that fold the display in half. When folded, it looks like a standard bar-shaped smartphone, but when opened, it features a 10-inch screen similar to a tablet PC. Samsung Electronics seeks to take the lead in the foldable market with the Tri-Fold, which combines the company’s extensive technological experience.
The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold features an ‘in-folding’ design, in which both edges of the screen fold inward to enhance the main display’s protection. The external display on the back is located in the middle. The left panel folds first, followed by the right panel, which includes a rear camera, folding over the left one.

The external screen has a 6.5-inch display, matching the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but when completely opened, it transforms into a 10-inch expansive display. This screen is broader than the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 (8-inch), featuring a horizontal orientation that is longer than vertical, similar to a tablet. The device also offers an automatic alarm feature that alerts users through the screen and vibrations if any problems occur while folding.

The key highlight is the enhanced productivity and immersive experience provided by the 10-inch expansive display. Users can operate up to three applications simultaneously through the multi-window feature, similar to having three smartphones at once. Samsung’s pre-installed apps are also tailored for the large screen. For example, the ‘Samsung Internet’ app shows original content along with summaries and translations created by ‘Galaxy AI’ side by side for convenient access.
When opened, it measures 3.9 mm in thickness, making it the slimmest in the history of the Galaxy Z Fold series. Even when closed, the thickness is 12.9 mm, which is less than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (13.4 mm) launched in 2023. It is also thinner than single-fold foldable devices. The device weighs 309 grams, about 100 grams more than earlier Samsung foldable models.

The application processor (AP), serving as the core of the smartphone, is Qualcomm’s Galaxy-specific Snapdragon 8 Elite, identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It includes the highest battery capacity ever seen in the Galaxy foldable line, at 5,600 mAh, with batteries located on each of the three panels to ensure even power distribution. Additionally, it offers 45W ultra-fast charging, a first for the Galaxy Z series.
The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold is set to be released within the country on the 12th. Following this, it will be introduced in global markets, such as China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. It will be offered as one model featuring 16 gigabytes (GB) of memory, 512 GB of storage, and the ‘Crafted Black’ color, with a price tag of 3,590,400 South Korean won. In South Korea, it will be available via Samsung.com and 20 stores across the nation, including ‘Samsung Gangnam.’
Samsung Electronics’ CEO, Roh Tae-moon, said, “The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold is a device that achieves a harmony between efficiency and convenience, leveraging Samsung’s expertise in the emerging form factor industry. It will enhance the mobile experience in areas such as work, artistic expression, and communication.”
