The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, stated that the global community was ‘shocked’ by the outstanding performance of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) during its operation against India in May of this year.
Speaking at a graduation event held at the PAF Academy in Risalpur on Tuesday, Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu highlighted that Pakistan has become a regional stabilizer following the May confrontation with India.
For the first time in history, the PAF carried out a comprehensive, multi-domain operation, incorporating elements of space, electronic warfare, long-range vectors, unmanned aerial systems, strike drones, and loitering munitions. ‘…the world was amazed by the outstanding performance of the Pakistan Air Force operation, which was expertly planned and perfectly executed,’ he mentioned.
Air Chief Sidhu stated, “We are facing difficult times due to a complicated global and regional situation. Our enemies have consistently been threatening the sovereignty of our cherished nation. The recent clash in May of this year is also an example of this.”
Praise be to Allah, the people of Pakistan and its military achieved a remarkable victory over an enemy with significantly larger numbers.
He mentioned that the achievements in Marka-e-Haq and Bunyan-um-Marsoos were due to a cohesive national strategy and divine extraordinary favors.
On the critical night of May 6 and 7, when Pakistan’s independence faced an attack from the aggressor, the PAF maintained its tradition of overcoming odds and downed the enemy’s most advanced and powerful aircraft – such as several Rafales, Su-30MKIs, Mirage 2000s, MiG-29s, and unmanned aerial vehicles – supported by clear proof and electronic data.
The air chief added that this intense aerial confrontation is being seen as one of the most vigorous and prolonged conflicts in contemporary aviation history, resulting in the enemy’s skies remaining quiet for the rest of the war.
We also addressed their pre-emption on May 10, in coordination with the Pakistan Army, delivering a devastating blow that targeted their bases and ground assets deep within the enemy’s territory, from north to south, while also disabling the advanced S-400 air defense system and command-and-control centers.
“Undoubtedly, the PAF could have taken more steps, but we inherited a well-developed strategic culture. Our actions and operations were successful, yet measured and balanced, guided by one main objective: to maintain peace with dignity, in accordance with the ambitions of our magnificent country,” he added.
This year, Pakistan and India faced off militarily, marking the most severe conflict between the two nations in many years. The clash was triggered by a terrorist attack on tourists in the Pahalgam region of IIOJK, which New Delhi claimed was supported by Pakistan.
Islamabad refuted any participation in the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, and expressed willingness to take part in an impartial investigation of the tragic event.
In the fighting, Pakistan shot down seven Indian fighter planes, including three Rafale models, and numerous drones. Following a minimum of 87 hours, the conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries concluded on May 10 through a ceasefire arrangement facilitated by the United States.
