*Suggests it is able to manage them

The government of Kogi State has confirmed that it did not engage in discussions with kidnappers during a recent incident in the state, highlighting that security forces managed to free the captives following a confrontation with the perpetrators.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, made this statement yesterday during an interview on Channels Television’s show, Morning Brief. Fanwo rejected claims that the victims were either paid a ransom or set free by the kidnappers, insisting that the operation was a direct rescue executed by security personnel.

When questioned about whether a ransom was paid, Fanwo stated, “In Kogi State, we do not engage in negotiations with kidnappers and criminals.”

The government stated it will not yield to any criminal. We possess the ability to eliminate them. We have the capability to handle the situation.

He stated that the rescue operation included a confrontation between the kidnappers and security forces, resulting in injuries to members of the state.

“We are sorry that during the gunfire between the kidnappers and our military and security forces, two individuals were lost,” Fanwo said.

As stated by the commissioner, the offenders knew that Kogi continues to be a hostile area for such actions.

“I also believe many of them were aware that Kogi is off-limits to them,” he said.

Reaffirming the government’s strong position of refusing to engage with lawbreakers, he stated, “We did not negotiate with any criminal. We will not negotiate with any criminal.”

We have no intention of engaging in discussions with any criminal. We will utilize the full capabilities of our security system to consistently address them.

Fanwo stated that the state government will keep enhancing its security system to enable a swift reaction to dangers throughout Kogi State.

Remember that members of the 12th Brigade of the Nigerian Army freed six abducted individuals who had been taken by criminals in the Ejiba and Saminaka forests within the Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi.
