Personnel from the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 as part of Operation Whirl Stroke, have neutralized two bandits, demolished hideouts, and detained a major suspect involved in unlawful activities in Taraba State.
This information was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad.
As per the statement, on December 2, forces conducted a targeted clearing operation, designated as Operation Zafin Wuta, in the villages of Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua within the Takum Local Government Area.
The operation, driven by reliable information about armed groups active in the Tor-Tser region, reportedly led to the capture of a suspect, Dahiru Maigari.
As the military moved closer to the mountainous strongholds, the outlaws retreated further into the harsh landscape, leaving behind their bases. The forces carried out an extensive inspection before demolishing the camps, which the criminals had earlier stated were unreachable by law enforcement.
In Tyozua, the fleeing outlaws ignited a wooden bridge to hinder military advancement, yet the soldiers moved ahead with resolve and drove the criminals across the power line into adjacent Benue State.
“During the operation, one suspect, named Dahiru Maigari, was detained and is currently being subjected to initial inquiry,” the military stated.
As a related update on December 4, it was reported that soldiers carried out a combat patrol near Karim Lamido and the surrounding areas to restrict the mobility of raiders.
The text stated, “As they were heading toward Usmanu, the patrol came under attack from armed thieves hiding behind the Wudompi Community.”
The troops reacted quickly, stopping the assault and disabling two of the armed individuals. A follow-up examination of the location resulted in the finding of one AK-47 weapon and 21 bullets, with no injuries reported among their own forces.
The assailants are believed to be part of the Karimjo group involved in recent efforts to reorganize in the region.
Safety in Karim Lamido stays peaceful, as military forces remain on high alert after the incident, according to the army.
In response to the operational achievements, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, acknowledged the outstanding performance and bravery demonstrated by the soldiers.
He mentioned that the series of operations once more highlights that no area is off-limits to the Nigerian Army and no criminal hideout is beyond their capability.
“He pledged to the people of Taraba State that the Brigade will not waver in its determination to track down offenders no matter where they go and to keep up the pressure until all dangers to peace are eliminated,” the statement ended.
