December 2, 2025 (ABASSYIA) – The Sudanese military seized the key town of Mabsouta on Tuesday, reinforcing its control over the South Kordofan base of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and advancing toward the rebel-occupied town of Al-Mureib, according to military officials and local residents.
On Sunday, the military moved into regions that had been controlled by the SPLM-N since 2011, such as Al-Damra, Tebsa, Gordud Nama, Al-Shawaiya, Al-Jubailat, and Al-Sanadra. Nevertheless, the SPLM-N stated that it had regained control of the town of Gordud Nama.
Footage shared by SAF troops on social media highlighted the military’s presence in Mabsouta, a significant area that had been under SPLM-N control for 14 years.
Military officials expect the army to maintain its attack in an effort to reclaim the Al-Mureib region, which is seen as the primary stronghold of the SPLM-N in the eastern mountains of South Kordofan state.
The advanced control-mapping system, “Vesta,” noted the presence of widespread fires in the Al-Mureib region, where SPLM-N combatants and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) units had left Mabsouta. The system indicated that the fires were probably the result of artillery fire from the military aimed at the gathering of troops in Al-Mureib.
In recent weeks, the SPLM-N and its partner, the RSF, have sent substantial military forces close to Dilling. This action suggests that the two groups plan to assault the city, which is currently surrounded by a strict blockade.
The military conducted a coordinated operation in the Abassiya, Abu Karshola, and Hibeila regions of South Kordofan state, representing the first such attack in these locations since the conflict began in April 2023.
Last week, fighting occurred in the Kartala area of the Six Mountains region in Hibeila between the SAF and the SPLM-N, a faction aligned with the RSF.
The SAF is seeking to lift the blockade set by the SPLM-N and the RSF on Al-Dalang, with a final goal of reaching Kadugli. The military had earlier declared a movement from El-Obeid, intending to move into regions between the capital of North Kordofan and Dilling.
