A Thai soldier died and eight more were injured after Cambodian forces launched shells and rockets against Thai military and civilian locations on Monday morning.
Thai forces retaliated to halt the assaults, with air force aircraft targeting military installations.
A Thai army spokesperson, Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree, stated that Cambodian forces started firing rifles and indirect artillery at locations in the Chong An Ma region of Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani, beginning at 5:05am.
At 7am, the Royal Thai Army was notified that a Thai soldier had been killed and four others injured due to a Cambodian attack in the Chong Bok area of Nam Yuen district, he stated.
At a later press briefing, Maj Gen Winthai stated that eight Thai troops were injured and at least one soldier had lost his life. A second death was still awaiting confirmation, he added.
Cambodia extended its operations to target the Huai Ta Maria region in Si Sa Ket, along with the Khana, Ta Khwai, and Ta Muen areas in Surin.
Major General Winthai stated that Thai troops opened fire and Thai fighter jets targeted numerous Cambodian military positions to stop the Cambodian offensive.
The 2nd Army reported that at 8:30 AM, rockets launched from BM-21 systems struck Ban Sai Tho 10 in the Ban Kruat district of Buri Ram.
The border incidents on Monday in Cambodia came after an assault in Si Sa Ket province on Sunday afternoon, during which two Thai soldiers were injured.
The assault on Sunday led to the relocation of residents in border regions of four northeastern provinces that share a boundary with Cambodia. Over 385,000 individuals were evacuated from high-risk zones near the border, according to the 2nd Army.
The assaults restarted on Monday morning.
The 2nd Army stated that around 10pm on Sunday, Cambodia moved tanks into the Samrong region of Oddar Meanchey province and relocated individuals from border zones.
Around 11 pm, Cambodia initiated comprehensive military readiness along its border with Thailand. It reinforced its military installations, disabled mobile phones, deployed drones, and arranged for army commanders.
Around midnight, Cambodia on Monday utilized RM-70 multiple rocket launchers in the Chom Krasan area of Preah Vihear province and relocated nearby communities.
Around 1 a.m., Cambodia utilized BM-21 and Type 90B multiple rocket launchers in Samrong, Oddar Meanchey.
Around 3am, Cambodia directed weapons at Buri Ram airport in Buri Ram province and at Prasat Hospital in Surin province.
Around 3:25am, Cambodia directed weapons towards Ban Kachai Noi village, located in the Ban Dan district of Buri Ram. This village is 13 kilometers away from Buri Ram airport and 87 kilometers from the border.
Cambodia also directed its weapons towards Ban Chruk Khwae village located in the Prasat district of Surin. The village is situated 31 kilometers from the border.
A Thai air force official, AM Jackrit Thammavichai, stated that Thai fighter aircraft were deployed to halt Cambodian military activities that threatened Thai safety and citizens.
The jet deployment addressed Cambodia’s significant military actions near the border, presenting a broad threat to Thai territory. Air force aircraft focused solely on military installations, upholding the right to self-defense, necessity, and proportionality, he mentioned.
In the Sa Kaeo province, the 1st Army initiated the removal of residents from border regions, starting around 7 a.m.
