The Burkina Faso government stated that a Nigerian Air Force plane with 11 troops had to land in the nation on Monday following reports of entering its airspace.
The news was shared by the Agence d’Information du Burkina, the government-owned media outlet, which released a statement from the Confederation of Sahel States.
The statement, translated from French, said, “The Confederation of Sahel States informs the public that a C130 plane from the Air Force of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was forced to land today, December 8, 2025, in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, due to an in-flight emergency while flying over Burkinabe airspace. The military aircraft had two (2) crew members and nine (9) passengers aboard, all of whom were military personnel.”
The statement noted that an inquiry conducted by Burkinabe officials “demonstrated the lack of permission to operate over the territory of Burkina Faso for this military equipment.”
The AES denounced the event as an infringement on sovereignty, stating, “it condemns this breach of its airspace and the sovereignty of its member states with the strongest possible resolve.”
The body cautioned that “the air and anti-aircraft defenses of the Confederate space were placed on full alert…and were authorized to disable any aircraft that would breach the Confederate space.”
No formal statement has been released by the Nigerian Air Force or the federal administration as of now.
